A lot of area to walk araund and enjoy old times buildings from all around Latvia. Can have a good meal on spot. Rather cheap.

Great place to walk around and relax at nature near Riga
I agree with most of the positive comments. It is alwasy useful to check the website of the open air museum if there are some special events on the calendar. Especially beginning of June, summer and autumn solstice there are interesting markets and ethnografic events. Also during the winter there is a smaller event, but nice when it as snowed.
I never seen any other so wide placed open air museum. Maybe reason is that Latvian favorite material for buildings is tree logs. For those who think about possible green future - welcome.
The best time to visit is beginning of June, when Gadatirgus (Trade show) is taking place, or in June 23, when the Ligo (Midsummer) is celebrated - you'll be able to feel the real atmosphere of this place. There are lots of another activities in this museum, so it may be a good idea to visit it's facebook page /EthnographicOpenAirMuseumLatvia...

Museum represents well the history of Latvians living in different parts of the country from middle ages till some 19th century.
Nice walking at the nature and seeing old style living.
There are good preserved old buildings and some bilding restored in accordance to drawings and descriptions. You may find out a lot of interesting things about householding and farming, blacksmithing and other aspects. Might be very caruded during the fair.
I know this kind of open air museum from Denmark, so I did not expect too many surprises.
The place is easily accessible by bus (stops in front of the museum).

The museum itself is in a large forested area, with a lot of unique & beautiful hiking paths going from exhibit to exhibit. The people manning the exhibits were extremely helpful and it was fun helping them...
