If you find yourself at a loss with something to do in Krakow centre, or its a bit of a rainy day, then why not take a trip out to Wieliczka Salt Mine & Museum (one of the oldest salt mines in the world apparently) . . . . You can either take a train from the main train station... more

Of all the places we visited on this trip to Poland and the Czech Republic this would be last on our list of ever visiting again. The comments by the guide are canned. Henny Youngman watch out. The walk down (801 steps) was not worth it and at the end it seems like you will not be able to escape... more

This was pretty cool. Definitely a unique experience to be 300 feet underground in caverns made completely of salt (sculptures are salt, you can taste the walls, etc.), That said, it's very touristy, the tour is not all that informative, and something about it just isn't all that authentic. We were in Krakow for three days, and it was a... more

had read reviews before i went to the salt mines and everyone seemed to rave about it. We didn't do the organised tour we went to the mini bus station oppsite the shopping mall and got a bus for 6PLN return each. Much cheaper. We arrived and paid 64PLN each for the english tour which you have to go on.... more

We got a bus to Wieliczka salt mines, we found it harder than getting a train, so if I were to do this again, I would get the train in both directions because it is nearer and better sign posted, it cost 2.50Zlo (50p) each way. The bus and train were the same price. Entrance price was 64Zlo (£12.80) this... more

I shant go into too much detail but can only reiterate what others have said. This is well worth the trip & dont be put off by the fact that you have to go down sooooo many steps. It really is easy & passes in a flash. There are loads of chambers to visit & right at the very end... more

Definitely worth going to see. Bring something long-sleeved to wear inside, as it is quite cool inside. As for the 10 zloty's extra to take photos- don't bother paying- it's purely a cash grab, and no one checks to see if you have paid to take photos anyways. People that didn't pay took pictures anyways, I was a bit bitter.... more

The Wieliczka Salt Mine is one different sight from the usual museums, buildings and town centres that visitors to Europe usually see. A truly amazing sight is the huge underground chapel carved entirely out of salt - chandeliers, paintings on the wall, and even a sculpture of the pope. One cannot help but imagine how amazing the people who built... more

We were very suprised how much we enjoyed the Salt Mine. You do not have to take a tour to get there. The Salt Mine offers a bus in front of the Royal Hotel twice a day. It takes about 1/2 an hour to get there. The first one leaves at 9am. When you get there you purchase your tickets... more
