Just love the ride from Homer to Kodiak. I have been on this ferry more than once, I can't believe how amazing it is on this March ride. Saw the full moon shining over the dark sky at night. It was like a classic movie. Coming back from Kodiak, stop over Port Lion turned out to be a memorable experience.... More

If you want to travel the inside passage without the thousands on a cruise ship this is what you want.. We traveled from Bellingham Washington to Whittier Alaska on the MS Kennicott. and were very pleased with our choice. The ship was clean, the food was good and the crew was friendly and knowledgeable. The views were fantastic. There were whales, porpoise,... More

This was my first time on a ferry and I am so glad I made the choice to go by sea instead of air. I had a 2 bed cabin with a private bath. I assumed (rightly so) that the food would be expensive for a volunteer's income. So I brought some of my own. There was microwave and water... More

We rode three different ferries for five different legs over a period of three weeks in January 2012. Overall it was very good. The biggest problem we had was that the Matanuska ferry from Ketchikan to Bellingham arrived two hours late, and I understand that this is common, perhaps even routine! The problem is that the time given on paper... More

We did a loop of South Central Alaska - took the train from Anchorage to Denali and Fairbanks, then drove from Fairbanks to Valdez, and then took the ferry from Valdez to Whittier The Valdez/Whittier route has two ferry choices: the Aurora which takes 5+ hours and the Chenega which takes 3hours. We took the Chenega (a faster boat) and... More

We're familiar with the Alaska ferry system because we sailed many times between various towns. Previously we took the Columbia ferry and made few-days long stops in Ketchikan, Wrangell, Petersburg, Juneau and Haines. Taking small segments was great but this was the first time we took such a long sailing from Haines, AK to Bellingham, WA. The ferry left Monday... More

I took the High Speed Ferry "Chenega" on a recent business trip between Valdez and Cordova, in Prince William Sound. What a great experience! The ferry was clean, nicely appointed/decorated, and the seats were large and comfortable- I slept like a baby! $50 for a one-way ticket. Food and drinks are reasonbly priced and available at the gift shop. I... More

My wife and I took a two and a half day cruise on the Alaska Marine Highway System from Skagway to Prince Rupert in early August at the end of a two week tour of Alaska. What a wonderful way to finish up an amazing tour with Sunshine Tours from Dublin, VA. We were a little skeptical about the quality... More

The Marine Highway is an essential part of Alaska's public transportation system and one of the best ways to see coastal parts of the state at a fraction of the cost of a cruise ship. That, and you get to see the "real" Alaska by stopping in places the behemoth cruise ships can't and won't visit. There are no-frills, but... More
