The Conservation Center is a place that cares and rehabilitates wild animals found in Alaska. They are a non-profit organization with an amazing group of animals. We came because we heard there was a baby muxox. We did not get to see it when we came but the place is a photography wonderland. You can take photos of animals in... More

The people at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center do amazing work. Every animal at the AWCC has a story; rescue, orphaned, any number of scenarios that needed human intervention to preserve their life. Let's be clear, AWCC is not a zoo its a conservation center that has hundreds of acres for the wildlife to roam about. Ticket prices start at... More

It may be small, but where else can you get up close with several Alaskan natives like moose, elk, bears, musk ox, even a bald eagle and caribou? Our kids loved the walk around the center, even though the weather was yucky and the road mucky-wet. Didn't deter one bit from our fun.

1) You're probably in the region for some other purpose, like the portage glacier - this is right next to it. 2) It's cheap. 3) It really delivers. This is a wildlife rehabilitation center ( for large game animals primarily), and essentially an outdoor zoo. You can see some of these animals in urban zoos, but to see them in... More

However to much of it is spent on Elk which is not native to Alaska and Bison that they have more of than was ever found in the wild. There has to be more then three Moose that need's help. The gift shop has reasonable prices and is well stocked. It's worth the trip if you have the time for... More

Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center is our favorite place to take our visitors from outside of Alaska. It is the best and safest place to get pictures of grizzly bears, bull moose, bison and more. The wildlife are only one part of this important wildlife sanctuary. The work they do is very important and the knowledge learned is invaluable in protecting... More

We decided to stop in and visit the conservation center as it was in between our destinations. I'm so glad we did. The center takes in orphan or injured animals and nurses them back to health until they can be released back into the wild. Among the animals we saw there were a bald eagle (one in captivity that had... More

About an hour south of Anchorage, just before the turn to go to Seward you will see the sign for the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center. This is not a zoo, there are no cages! Grizzlies, musk oxen, moose can be seen up close, but behind the safety of fence. You may or may not see these animals in the wild,... More

On the advice of a fellow traveler, we stopped at the center on our drive to our cruise ship in Whittier. OMG this was so great! They are doing fantasic work saving injured and endangered animals! My husband was complaining about not seeing one moose in our 4 days in Alaska and here he got to get up close! The... More

The bear cubs were really fun to watch, the reindeer that kept nodding off and waking up was really funny.
