Every holiday we come to the park and walk around the North Trail. It is just under 3 miles long and is easy underfoot with no real changes in elevation to cope with. It is just fine for us oldies who walk with a stick and would suit families with young kids. There are excellent picnic areas near the trail... More

Almost everytime I come to Phoenix from NWern NM, I camp at least one night at McDowell. I find the park to be stunningly beautiful. Maybe it's the river nearby, I'm not sure, but McDowell just seems a little greener than the rest of the area. In the winter, a fine grass gives the ground a beautiful green glow to... More

If you enjoy hiking or biking, this park is a place you'll want to be. There are several hikes available that will appeal to the novice to the expert hiker. This is a destination for mountain bikers but for the casual, or not so casual street biker, you'll love it too. Paved roads run thru the park for miles creating... More

McDowell Mountain Regional Park is over 21,000 acres of desert surrounded by mountains. There are horse trails, walking trails, & biking trails. The sunsets are magnifcient, the dark starry night skies are amazing, & the peaceful quiet of the night with only the sounds of cayotes make this camping experience an oasis amid the nearby cities. There are group camping... More

My wife and I visited this park whilst staying at Scottsdale. We dropped in to the visitors centre, paying the $6 day fee. The very friendly and informative guide directed us to the nature trail to take a short hike. We thought that the 3.1 mile interpretative trail was just the right length. When we went, we had the parking... More

I retired out to Scottsdale, Az in 2008. I love to hike and found one trail that would be rated as "easy" and hikers of all ages could enjoy. This trail is the "LOST DOG WASH TRAIL" and the trailhead can be accessed by driving down SHEA BLVD to 124th St and then taking 124th to the Trailhead parking (there... More
