We travelled Los Angeles to Seattle in a family bedroom; this is a sleeper that is the full width of the car and takes four people. Two of the beds are only long enough for kids and hence this is sold to families. We chose the bedroom since it gives you a view out of both sides of the train... More

We arrived at Seattle station late and with a stuffed up booking. The staff could not have been any more helpful, our bags were checked in while I sorted out our booking for a sleeping cabin all the way through to Los Angeles. The carriage attendant had to make some adjustments to other booking as we were not on his... More

We took the Coast Starlight between Seattle and Sacramento as the first segment of a trip across the USA by train . This was our first experience with Amtrak but we have had other experiences with train traveling in Canada , Europe , Africa and Asia . The trip did not have a good start as it was 3 hours... More

AMTRAK from LAX to SEA is nigh on to a scenic adventure.  For starts, station in LAX is an art deco cathedral.  Noon departure traverses sea shore for a long while then dramatically crosses over steep mountains to the capital.  Then darkness.  At sunup Mount Shasta shows on the right side window. Through wooded mountains on the side of cliffs... More

I was eating my perfectly cooked salmon watching my wife enjoying her steak and the ocean view, when I thought about all the laughter and smiles my family had shared on the train. The views were amazing. The ride was surprisingly smooth. The staff was mostly very pleasant. And bonding with my family was great. We made it to Santa... More

This portion of my cross-country Amtrak trip was really the height of my vacation! Again, a private bedroom with bath-the most comfortable accommodations on Amtrak. South, from Portaland, Oregon to Los Angeles, California. The VIP lounge at Oregon's historic Union Station is a great place to start your trip, and then settle into a very comfortable seat aboard the Coast... More

We took the Coast Starlight from LA to Seattle, stayed there for a week, and then came back on the same route. What a great way to relax and watch the west coast of America pass you by: ocean, mountains, rolling hills and valleys. Met some great people, and had plenty to do on board. This was a really welcome... More

I recently (3/21-3/22/2012) took an Amtrak Coast Starlight train round-trip from Los Angeles to Seattle. It is a 30 hours ride if everything worked out as planned. Our train started one hour late from the start due to mechanical reason. We got off the train at Klamath Falls and were bused to Portland on a very cramped bus for 6... More

This was out first Train trip. We caught the train in Seattle and went overnight to San Fran. We booked the roomette, which was smaller than I thought it would be, but cozy for 2. Our room attendant was very nice. The food was better than I thought it would be, and the time went by pretty quickly. We had... More

Just got back from a train trip from San Francisco to L.A. Even though it was a 12 hour, day trip I booked a sleeping room for my husband, myself and 2 teens. I was told it would be well worth it as we would have full use of the Parlor Car. Well seems the Parlor Car is out of... More
