The drive through the Avenue of the Giants was one of our favorite things that we did on our vacation. The redwoods are so awe inspiring and the forest is really beautiful. In addition, it did not take a lot longer than the main road. You can get on and off but we traveled the full length and stopped quite... More

If you have never hugged a Giant Redwood Tree while driving on the Avenue of the Giants you are missing one of the most spectacular creations of nature. These trees, thousands of years old are just so awesome and overwhelming. Just one tree has enough raw timber to build and entire house. The forests of Redwood Trees on the Avenue... More

We spent half a day on the Avenue of the Giants and made a few stops at the nicest places. We started in the North near Pepperwood. We took a break at the Immortal Tree, a Redwood which survived lightning, fire and flood. You find a souvenir shop there. Then we walked through the Founders Grove. We really loved the... More

I drove on Avenue of the Giants - the old 101 through a Redwood Forest. Lovely! Definitely worth the slight detour. The trees didn’t look all that big until I got out and walked around a bit. OK –they are not Sequoias, but they are big! And it's just lovely to drive under the canopy of giants.

It was a very quiet time of the year, so we found the park mostly empty. The paths were not all well marked. We stopped at the gift shop at The Eternal Tree, the Shop keeper was very helpful and provided us with good directions and suggestions. The weather was not the best but, with his advice we visited The... More

this time through these forests I felt as if I had never been there before...the impact these soulful giants had on my whole body...soul and Spirit was really beyond any words I can write...they came into my whole Being and made me feel like a sacred human who is immensely One with the Earth and humanity...it was a healing of... I couldnt have timed this any better to avoid the tourists. I ended up concentrating my hike in the Fleishman Grove area. A nice place to just meander about for an hour or two. I ended up leaving after hearing a gunshot in the area. Not sure if hunting is allowed, but didnt want to be mistaken for game either.

Avenue of the Giants is a 31 miles scenic road that goes from Phillipsville to Pepperwood, parallel to Highway 101 in Northern California. You drive through groves of the tallest trees in the world. These are the giant redwood trees, some over 300 feet high. If you are a nature lover, this encounter will be a life time experience. Along... More

Yes, AOTG is wonderful - as an introduction to the redwoods. It's vastly different than talking a hike in a more pristine grove, so if you really want to know what the redwood forests are like you'll have to either get our of the car and walk (at one of the longer trails) or make for the Redwoods State/NP. Don't... More

My husband and I stopped here on our drive down the coast from Portland to San Francisco. We only had a few hours to spend, but I very much wish we had planned to stay a night or two in the region. We would stop at one of the pull off points and wander into the forest. One time we... More
