We just returned from a long weekend in the Poconos with our children. We hiked the Appalachian Trail, ate cider donuts in Delaware Water Gap, visited Callie's Pretzel Factory and Callie's Candy Shop, had a great breakfast at the Mountainhome Diner, and the kids skipped stones into a creek. We spent a week in July at Big Bass Lake near Gouldsboro, PA., and couldn't have been more disappointed. The house smelled bad. The house website said there was a "private beach," but we were not permitted to swim in the lake near the house. The community (outdoor) pool was beautiful, but passes for the week were $40 per person.... more
