This is a self guided tour, which means you walk through certain rooms of the house in a group of people. There is no written explanation of the rooms except for a sign that gives its name. Now, there is a person in each room and at first we thought he/she was just security (they are), but they are also... more

We went on the standard White House walking tour last September with our three young boys. We went through the procedure to ask our member of Congress, which went well and was handled almost exclusively through email. We were given a time for the tour weeks in advance and lined up on the east side of the White House with... more

The White House is a must see for every American! It can be tricky getting in to see the White House and one must make reservations several months in advance and secure reservations through ones state official. Even then, this is not a guarantee as the tourist is at the mercy of the White House schedule and the secret service.... more

The feeling of the building is wonderful. Get you tickets through your state rep's office MONTHS in advance. The white house is packed full of stories and history, you can't miss out! The secret service was professional and answered questions. President Obama has created a good feeling among all his staff which transpires to visitors. more

They must have recently changed thier policy of self guided tour because when I met with my senator afterwords no one knew that it wasn't a self guided tour any more. The tour is led by a knowlegeable secret service agent who takes you from one room to the next explaining the history of everything in that room and what... more

This is an overdue review - we visited the White House in June of 2008 - but I was reading some of the reviews here and decided to add ours. We were lucky enough to get a private tour - but we were pretty much following the group tour, just very fortunate to have someone right with us to answer... more

Save your walking shoes unless you are going to be able to go inside. The view from outside is nice but sort of like looking thru the cages at the zoo..wouldn't it be nicer if you could pet the tiger!! more

It may be a self-guided tour, it may be about 20 minutes long and it may only show you a few of the rooms but HEY, you are in the White House! We loved it! The secret service along the tour route were great and answered all of our questions even though they probably get asked the same thing 100... more

We were able to procure a last minute tour of the white house through our Congressman's office a couple weeks prior to going to D.C. However, most folks will have to book up to six months in advance to do so. It was nice to see the rooms and there is a lot of historical paintings contained inside the rooms... more

We were lucky enough to be granted a tour of the White House on July 11. We had tour time of 10:30 am - not the most opportune time for a tour, but we were not going to pass up the opportunity to see the actual White House. We had to leave our bags at our hotel - we took... more
