Maybe I was lucky when I visited the Renwick Gallery on a recent Wednesday morning shortly after it opened, that I was the only one in the Grand Salon. I had this spectacular space all to myself! The soaring celing and rose-colored walls covered with paintings arranged salon-style was captivating. I am not a big fan of modern art, nor... More

The building is elegant, both inside and out, Old World and aristocratic in feel, rather than American. Although it presents the work of US-born artists, there are plenty of French-made or inspired decorative items, since the White House in the 19th century did sometimes turn to foreign or foreign-trained craftsmen when commissioning work. Spacious and well lit, I was able... More

This was a detailed and inside view into a fabulous exhibition of artefacts - including furniture and specially crafted pieces by artisans engaged to manufacture pieces befitting the Predident's Residence - or White House as it is known today. Fine china, silverware, paintings that have previously adorned the walls and rooms were on exhibit with the history of who created... More

We did all the big museums and I agree that you could skip this one if you go to the National Art Museum but we didn't and stopped in the Renwick Gallery while we were walking around the White House. What a nice surprise! My husband enjoyed the craft and unusual exhibits of glass and fiber art. I enjoyed the... More

This gallery is a special place as it holds the arts and crafts of our American heritage. So on our walk from the hotel to see the Martin Luther King Jr Memorial on a breezy morning, my husband and I stopped in. The exhibit expresses our history in the decorative arts, and how each administration chose to live according to... More

With the special White House Furniture/Art Exhibit inside and the White House across the street, this became a very patriotic museum trip. Related to American Art Museum!

Museum of American Craft, so it isn't everybody's cup of tea. It is however a gorgeous building near the White House... and it is FREE (Beat that NYC Museums) Their central gallery which is set up in the style of a 19th century Salon is worth the visit.
