We stumbled upon this memorial, after going around the Jefferson memorial. Its quite long, with lots of large blocks of stone. Waterfalls, and green statues. Its almost like they wanted to hide the memorial. Thats the feeling I had. I guess its a connector memorial between the Jefferson and Lincoln. Makes you feel good to know the money the gov... more

I visited Washington DC this past weekend. It was my first trip back in many a year and I was eager to see the new memorials that have benn added esp. the WWII and the FDR. I was so overwhelmed by the FDR Memorial for in its simple arrangement lies the strength of the man. I felt like it was... more

I've been a fan of the big memorials in DC for a long time, led by the Lincoln Memorial. But the FDR Memorial has become my recent favorite. It is an old-fashioned memorial, with great slabs of granite and other stone, stretching for almost a block along the Potomac River, linked by water. It tells the story of his presidency... more

The day we went was warm and beautiful, however remember the sunscreen. We forgot and we were bright red for my friend's wedding. This monument was by far the most inspiring. There was even a dedication to Mrs. Roosevelt. It is expansive, so where comfortable shoes. Make sure you stop to read all of the quotes. Many of the most... more

This memorial should be must closer to the top of the list! I am ashamed to say that we happened to find it by accident, as we were walking from Jefferson's monument to Lincoln's. It is so beautiful and peaceful! It's huge and filled with many different waterfalls and water elements. It's one of the most serene places that you... more

The FDR memorial is really a series of walls, waterfalls, quotes, statutes and pillars. All things considered, its quite good and interesting walk through FDR's achievements. Everything is there, from his most quotable lines, his terrier, his wife and of course the man himself. In particular the water elements are quite picturesque. Especially as the tidal basin area is definitely... more

I had gotten a Wikipedia article about this site before we visited or else probably wouldn't have understood the complex which was goign on. Having read it beforehand though, it made it a more interesting site. It walks you through the troubles and turmoils that occurred during FDRs presidency from the Great Depression to WWII to his death. An interesting... more

What a waste of an opportunity this monument was. It was way too large, clumsily done, and totally lacking in elegance. It was the worst of the "illuminated tour" I went on, and a disappointing tribute to a great President. The only plus is that it featured a tribute to Eleanor. more

This memorial is very impressive and unique compared to the other presidential memorials in DC. It a long park-like area filled with waterfalls, statues and relaxing shady spots to stop and rest. This is also one of the most interesting memorials because it tells a story as you go along. The architecture of the walls and waterfalls reflects the events... more
