I may be biased, since i'm somewhat drawn to local markets, etc., but i really enjoyed walking around, negotiating prices, practicing my spanish, and just generally checking it out. this market has it all, from meat, veggies, fruits, radios, t-shirts, etc. You'll see mennonites hanging out with trucks full of produce, mayans selling fish and vegetables, it's cool. the best... more

Definitely do this if you happen to be in the area on Saturday and like markets and local culture. (Would not go out of my way to see it, though). The best part of the San Ignacio market is that it's not done for tourists. The locals come out on Saturday for the big market day to buy their produce & groceries and, apparently, socialize. Visit the market on Saturday when it is best. The market on Saturday is comprised of a flea market more on the road area. In the other area is a large area of fresh fruit and vegetables.
