Caracol is an amazing representation of the ancient Mayan ruins. It is largely renovated and gives you an amazing experience, guided or unguided. The road is is amazingly difficult, requiring a high clearance vehicle at the least. It's a heck of a trip complete with armed military escort. The ruins offer breathtaking views across the jungle and the climb up... more

You don't find much about Caracol on the Internet, maybe that's why it's so great. We saw less than 20 people the entire time we were visiting the ruins. We were only on a temple with anyone besides our guide once. The ruins are situated amongst rainforest. As you walk through the rainforest, you will just come upon huge temples... more
