If you expect to go in and see a royal palace then you will be extremely disappointed, because apart from the doors you won't see anything. True these are nice doors... but that is all... Nicer doors than the ones in Casablanca... but not really worth to stop for more than 10 minutes to take a quick picture. For me... More

Nothing to see at the palace. Three, I accept beautiful, doors to view. O and a big wall hiding everything else.

You can not go inside the palace but the seven doors are magnificent with all the gold plated mosaic. Just spend a few minute at this place to take a few great photos. Nothing else to see other than the Palace's Gate. After the palace you can just continue walking and visit the Jewish Quarter of Fez.

You can only stop in the plaza and stare at the doors, but they're the kind of doors you'd have if you were a king. Definitely worth a look-see. (Be warned: do not take photos of the driveway/entrance off to the left. Security will come and make you delete your photos. These guys mean business.)

what a pity that tourists are not welcome inside - the king only comes about 3 times a year and the palace must lie empty for the rest - what a waste

The Royal Palace is near the The Mellah or Jewish Quarter. Although you can't go in, you can enjoy the beauty of its construction. It is closed to visitors these days – which is sad because it has a reputation of being among the mot elegant structures of Morocco! Something that can be guessed from the outside indeed! We were... Ususally royal palaces are forbidden to the public and main gates are forbidden to photographed. The police will always shout at you if you dare to take out the camera or mobile phone. So this main gate at Dar el Makhzen in Fes is really for photographing, touching and admiration. The brasswork and the mosaics were made without a plan... More
