It really is a pity the museum doesn't get the exposure it deserves. It hosts amazing pieces of anthropology like The Nutcracker Man, it has replicas of cave paintings, a series called The Human Evolution, and relics from the major stepping stones of East African history. As I understand, there's even going to be an art gallery opening soon. It... More

Some interesting exhibits, but a lot of it was not terribly relevant to TZ history. They should have a good english-speaker read over the text at their exhibits. Many misspellings and poor sentence structure. They could do much better.

It has exhibitions about Tanzania before, during and after colonization which was very interesting and everyone should visit. The rest was a bit a mix of many things and needs a better display! It is in a new buildning and have a great potential t become a fantastic museum of Tanzania but also east african culture!

I live in Dar now and was very interested in Tanzania's history so I decided a trip to the National Museum was in order. If you are a history buff or particularly interested in the history of Tanzania you probably will enjoy the museum. There is very little upkeep done here so much of it is in poor condition. The... This museum might be much better that the one I've seen. The collection is not bad and the ethnographic room is quite interesting. Unfortunately when I went was under main renovations and most of the rooms were either close or very messy and disorganized. Go there only if you are big fan of human evolution (the section on Laetoli and... More
