I studied archaeology so this place was fascinating!! Lots of important discoveries here- including the earliest footsteps of humankind demonstrating bipedal movement (upright walking) 3.7 million years ago. The museum is pretty subdued and small (2 rooms), but still interesting with lots of artifacts on display. There is an informative lecture given by staff who are happy to answer questions.... more

There is a very small museum at the Gorge, that seems to be a main stopping point for safari's heading into the Serengeti from the Ngorongoro Conservation area. It describes the work carried out by Louis and Mary Leakey who pioneer the excavation of the area. The finds here include the earliest signs of our prehuman ancestors, well their footprints... more
