Don't hesitate to make a day trip out of Tunis to visit the Roman ruins in Dougga. For one thing, the trip there gives one a glimpse of the beautiful Tunisian countryside: vineyards, bustling small towns and markets, lush scenery. We hired a taxi to take us from Tunis to these Roman remains (A couple of hours drive), and were very pleased to have visited them. They were extensive and quite varied - and on a magnificent site. There is a pleasant and very welcome cafe. more
