We found Bushwhackers tours (www.bushwhackertours.com), a small local run company, via the Timbooktoo (in Fajara) bookshop and ASSET and it was an excellent experience all round. Two great trips; friendly and well-informed guides who were happy to fit our extra interests in with the trips we booked. The two-day trip to the chimpanzee rehabilitation centre was great for wildlife. After... More

To me visiting the chimpanzee rehabilitation centre was more of an adventure than a 2 day tourist jolly. Taking 3 hours to get to your destination by ferry from banjul to Barra then car to the backwaters of the river then by boat to your final destination is an experiance in itself, your seeing the real Gambia, mud huts, monkeys on the road... Went to the Baboon Islands this weekend and I was truly amazed by how beautiful this place is. If you have spent some time in the tourist area of The Gambia, an 2-day trip to Baboon Island shows you the true beauty of The Gambia. Already the ride to the place is worth it. We took the Southbank route, which... More

About three months before going to Gambia & Senegal we contacted Saidou Jallow of Simon Tours through the internet. His website - a lovely iniative from a dutch couple- told us some more about him and the possibillities. We ended up booking a 3 day tour for € 280,00 per person. Quit a big amount of money compared to the... More

This place is in a stunning location and it is really lovely to be able to see the chimps. I hoped we would see more of them to be honest, as we spent less than 10 minutes watching them from the boat before zooming off down the river. The other wildlife and birdlife is fascinating and beautiful, but can be... More

I have just returned from the Gambia and spent £350 on a two night trip to see the Chimpanzee Rehabilitation Project on the River Gambia. Booking this trip was difficult with information hard to get and conflicting as to whether the place was closed or not. Tillys tours came to our rescue and we booked the trip through them. Their... I have been twice to this place and will go again. The accommodation is amazing, safari tents with a river and island view, with private open-air showers. The views are amazing both during the day and at night. The boat trip to see the chimpanzees was great, we also saw baboons, monkeys, several different bird species, hippos and a crocodile.... More

I highly reccomend a visit to the River Gambia National Park during your stay in Gambia.Far away from the tourist beaches, there are only 4 double tents on platforms so it is quiet exlusive. The place is run by Mathew who during dinner explaned about the project and answered all our questions.I would certainly go back in a next trip to... I came up here for my birthday weekend, and it was unbelievable. It's a little sad that few tourists get to come up the river to see this place because it's one of the most beautiful places in Gambia. Since roads are improving, it only takes 3.5 hours to get here (no ferries), and the staff here are really incredible.... More
