A walk round the souk was such a good experience - we were western 2 women unaccompanied and received no hassle from shopkeepers, no haggling needed and stallholders and shopkeepers were happy to let you browse and leave without buying anything. Everyone was very polite and friendly more

Tripoli's medina cannot be compared with those of other North African destinations. Only a small portion of the medina has been developed to cater to the tourist trade. However, it is definitely worth a visit, especially if you follow the "walking tour" suggestions in the Lonely Planet guide as I did. The medina for the most part has not been... more
