This restaurant has a fantastic atmosphere, full of quirky artifacts and stuffed animals. There is a great range of food (mainly meat) and the portions are huge A great night out for either a few drinks or a great meal

Since the new owner took over in 2011, the service is poor and the food is bad! Last time we waited for more then 60 min. before we could eat! I think Windhoek has better places to eat zebra's, gemsbok or other game meat.
but if your call is for more than trying the local bacchus brews, there are other better food choices in town.
After reading some reviews I had made up my mind that we would not visit joes beerhouse on return from our 1 week holiday in Namibia. On the recommendation of our guesthouse owner we decided to give it a try. She made a reservation for us. When we arrived we were seated at a 8 seated table. We enquired about...

I was last here 13 years ago and visited last week with a group of 14. Great food, coldish beer and good fun all round. Yes it gets busy and a bit slower but so what. If you ar ein windhoek, plan at least 1 dinner here.
The last night of our vacations in Namibia we decided to have dinner in this place described as "A must in Windhoek". It is really not a must!.
If compared to the food we had during the 2 weeks we spend around Namibia, I have to say that it was average and nothing special as other reviewers mention. The service...

If you have spend a few weeks in the desert and finally made it back to Windhoek, this is a fantastic place. Open fire, German-style beers, great BBQ meat and wonderful wines. A nice shop before you enter, private car parking, souvenirs and memorabilia. I love it !
I took my father, who hasn't been in a bar for 58 years(!) because of a previous bar fight in which he just happened to be because of two very foolish young brats wanting to roll each other on the floor, and had the most of everything:
out of the ordinary food, great personal service, no bar fights and hospitality...

I, too, was told that Joe's Beerhouse was not to be missed during a stay in Windhoek. We went with great anticipation and were disappointed at every turn. The decor was certainly intriguing and fun to 'discover' but that didn't make up for the really lousy service and mediocre food. Just because it's game doesn't make it great. We had...

I'm afraid Joe's was a bit of a disappointment. We were looking forward to our visit on the strength of lots of reviews which state it is a a ”must do” in Windhoek. It appears that Joe's is a victim of its own success. We visited on a busy Friday evening and they didn't seem able to cope with the...
