Windhoek, Namibia’s capital city, is described as a city with a ‘continental’ atmosphere and this can be ascribed to its architecture – historical buildings dating back to German colonial rule. Windhoek was initially known as Ai-gams a Nama word meaning ‘firewater’, ‘steam’ or ‘smoke’ because of the area’s plentiful hot springs.

Some renovation is currently underway and should, hopefully, bring the hotel back to its former glory. The Casino is plain dirty and poorly managed

We were a group of friends that wanted to play some Black Jack after dinner. At the casino entrance we clearly stated that that is the only game we want to play (so we don't need slot machine cards). We had to pay N$10 entrance fee. As we entered the casino we saw that the Black Jack table was closed...

I got in at 8 am and they got me right into a room. Which was great. The room was very nice. The staff (housekeeping, linen, front desk) were very helpful. The restaurant was a LITTLE pricey. It's buffet with a nice selection but I would have loved a menu. The bar was closed for remodeling while I was there....
