This dzong is located near the center of Thimphu, beside the royal palace. Like many Zhongs in Bhutan, half is an active government facility and the other half is open to the monks and public for prayer. If you are not planning to go to Punakha , definitely take the time to see this Zhong, but if time is limited... More

This Dzong makes a good stop. Since hours vary, try to ensure the guide knows the latest. We had to wait 30 minutes outside the gates because our day was a 5pm opening and not 4:30. Times vary because this is where Bhutan's government holds sessions. When the gates open, a large plug of tourists forms. Best practice is to... More

We were at Bhutan from 24March to 4 April 2012. First Stop was at Paro. Metta resort & Spa was the most impressive and unforgettable experience. Before going we done some homework and friends kept telling us foods was simple and plain, can sustain us from being hungry. Our 3 days stay at Metta was enjoyable and we were able... More

Only had a small window of opportunity to visit- between 5 and 6 pm but well worth visiting. Great to learn more about the royal and monastic governing of the country. The quietness and spiritual nature of the place was wonderful. We had some fun taking photos with the guards. You can also get a view of the royal residence.

My visit to the Thimphu Dzong was a fascinating one because it took me into a way of life that is utterly new to me. The Dzong is very serene (when no festivities are on) and the temple within is stunning. It is fascinating to view where the King sits, and where the monastic leaders hold court and see the... More

The Thimphu Dzong while not as impressive as the one in Punakha or Trongsa, is definetly worth a visit when you are in Thimphu. We were there on Sunday March 18th and had doubts whether it would be open as the guidebook gave timings only for Mon to Sat. However, we had no problems in going inside the Dzong and... More

It was late febrary and winter was still on. My visit to Bhutan started with the visit to Thimpu Dzong. Its an masterpiece architechture carved out of wood. Opposite to this is King's Palace another beautiful monument standing on the banks of Thimpu river. Overall nice place and must visit heritage attraction.

Bhutan, the Land of the Thunder Dragon, lies in the center of the Himalayas. We landed to Paro and the first flavor of Paro is the transparent purity of air and the absence of noise. The houses of Paro valley are considered to be among the most beautiful in the country. Paro is believed to be one of the first... More
