Kopan monastery is well worth a visit when you are around the Bodhanat stupa area. This welcoming working monastery is also used for retreats and courses on Buddhism catered to westerners. The big praying wheel is inside a room with colorful paintings. There is stupa surrounded by greenery that is an excellent place to sit down and relax. There are... More

Very nice and quiet monastery. Nice hike up the hill and good restaurant for a reward for your efforts.

Only around 20mins drive from central KTM but feels like a million miles away. An amazing retreat when you need a break from the hustle and bustle of Thamel. The gardens and the stupas are absolutely stunning. Never many people around, so extremely peaceful. I loved watching the novice monks chant at sunset. Holds monthly meditation retreats.

A beautiful location overlooking the Kathmandu Valley, escape from the pollution and see the monks relaxing in the sun at lunchtime. Take a taxi up to the monastery or a long hike

I took a 10 day meditation course at Kopan Monastery, which was an excellent experience. Kopan was built for westerners who are interested in Buddhism. The monastery itself is a beautiful place with a large garden, a stupa and gompas.

It a very beautiful and calm place out of the noisy town of Kathmandu. It is a perfect monastery for westerner to learn more about Buddhism (10-day course for beginner monthly, one month course once a year). For those who are only interested in meditation and not particularly in Buddhism, it is not the optimal place as only a minor... More
