I like the bed (lower berth w/window), the linens are nice. I like having a bathroom, and people sell food on the train at stops. The clickety-clack puts me to sleep. Try to get a bed in the middle of the car, not near the air conditioner on one end, and the bathroom on the other end.

Thailand is not known for its train service, but this one does offer its charms and conveniences. Boarding at 7PM, dine on board, sleep on the seat-turned-into-bed for one. Make sure you travel with a companion.

This was a fun thing to do ~ once. The staff was friendly and efficient, the ride was bumpy, one restroom was a hole in the floor but the other was an American style toilet. Backpacker style fun! A must if you're in Thailand. Overnight Bangkok to Chiang Mai both second class and first class suites are fine. Bring your own food and drinks if you don't want to pay for average eats onboard.
