How this can be anything other than the #1 attraction in Bangkok is beyond me. The golden temple and palace complex is THE Bangkok landmark, akin to the Statue of Liberty, the Eiffel Tower, Golden Gate Bridge, etc. Built over 200 years ago by King Rama I, first king of Siam, it houses the legendary emerald buddha which draws Thai... more

I loved the Grand Palace and temple of the Emerald Buddha. If you like beautiful architecture, and would like to learn more about Thai culture and history, this is a must-see. The entrance fee is now 350 baht but you really can spend more than half a day there. We took the free tour guided tour, which lasted about one... more

The Grand Palace always gives me mixed feelings. On one hand, it is really an awesome sight, I always wonder what it must have been like for the first european to have seen it. On the other, the generally good attitude I have toward Thais is spoiled here because there are so many cheats and scams. Essentially, if anybody talks... more

Its a must-visit place in Bangkok, but be sure to come early in the morning as the weather begins to get blistering hot by 1030am. Also be reminded that shoulders and leg must be covered when visiting the palace. But if u do not want to wear long sleeves and pants in the blistering heat, do not worry! there is... more

We arrived into Bangkok from Chaing Mai mid morning and then headed straight to the Palace. It was way too hot to really enjoy what this place has to offer. We were all ratty and couldn't appreciate what we had come to see. We did walk around and get some great pics but will definately have to put in on... more

The amount of different styled temples and figures, the activities around you and the feeling that you are in a very special place truly make the adventurous trip to the palace worthwile. In my view, there is only one real way to visit the palace. Take a local long boat from any peer on the Chao Phraya River and stop... more

The Grand Palace has been the official residence of the Kings of Thailand since the 18th century. Construction of the Palace began in 1782 and, the palace has been expanded since then. The present King does not currently reside there but at the Chitralada Palace. The Grand Palace has an area of 218,400 square metres and is surrounded by white... more

I fail to understand how a beauty salon and a cookery school rate above a place like the Grand Palace on a list of "Things to do in Bangkok". I can only assume that these places were selected by folk who have either visited Bangkok so many times they've forgotten how fabulous the Grand Palce and temples are, or they're... more

When you get to the Grand Palace beware of the "friendly, helpful" fellow telling you to purchase tickets in the opposite direction everyone else is going (go right, not left). He directs you to his partner in crime, who tells you the palace is closed for a special event until (insert a time around two hours past the time you... more
