I highly recommend getting a traditional thai massage at wat pho. It's not luxurious, in fact it's rather clinical, but what an experience indeed. From changing into the smocks to being manipulated 8 inches away from the French woman laying next to me. Wat Pho is around the corner from the Grand Palace. I had a brilliant time learning thai massage at Wat Po. I paid 8,000THB, which is the normal price, and was constantly surrounded by teachers. There was always at least 1 teacher per 4 students. Their english isn't brilliant for the most part, but it doesn't matter as what you're learning is very practical and tactile. When english was needed,... more

In January 2007 I traveled to Bangkok and enrolled in Wat Pho's massage school. Their website and all travel books stated the tuition was 7000BHT. When I arrived it had jumped to 8500BHT. Having been to the palace on a few previous visits to Bangkok and never had the time to get a massage, on my last visit I decided to take the plunge.
