This was the one thing I wanted to do with my time in Thailand, and it certainly lived up to my expectations. As everyone else has mentioned, we were collected by an English speaking guide, we had Tommy, who is the most recent edition to the Mahout team having worked there for a year, but many of the others have... more

My first thought when doing anything like this is the animal's welfare so that's where I'll start my review: The elephants are chained on fairly short chains which I was initially uncomfortable with. When I thought about it, if the elephants had longer chains, they'd get tangled. I suppose I'd expected them to be roaming free in a big pen... more

We were in Chiang Mai for limited time but seeing elephants was number 1 priority. There are lots of trips that offer Elephant experiences or rides but on investigation they usually included a show of some sort with elephants drawing, playing music or dancing. I find this particularly vulgar and was keen to that we did not participate in that... more

This trip was recommended to us by a Brit family in Bangkok. We are so glad they pointed us towards TIC. We had a great day, positives being; - friendly staff - prompt pick up and drop off - scenic and rural location -lovely lunch - nice group atmosphere -lots of time with elephants -lots of information learnt about elephants... more

the only one worth doing is magical elephant training. sounds twee, but far from it. Its an opportunity to be hands on, up close and natural with the elephants. you can see the elephants are well cared for which makes you happy. the guides give you the chance to learn instructions in thai and how to ride the elephant, and... more

I was asked to write a review in response to wizo9000's comments on the Magical Elephant Training camp. After having spent a day at the camp I can't say I agree with Wizo9000's comments. First, the elephants in the Magical Elephant Training camp appear to be very well looked after and I think it very unlikely that the elephants would... more

We were originally scheduled to go to the Patara Elephant Farm, but the concierge at our hotel recommended this place. It was, she assured us, quite a bit cheaper and the same experience. I had done a lot of research and was skeptical, but our group almost unanimously decided to go, so I went along. The leader (whose name I... more

We were so pleased that we chose these guys!! The day consisted of feeding the elephants, learning to drive them, a 2 hr bareback trek through the jungle with us driving the elephants. It was then bath time in the pond. There seem to be lots of elephant trekking companies but most put you in a precarious howdahs. With Baan... more

We made an elephant training in January 2009 with our children (8 and 10 years old). It was a part of our trip from almost half a year. It was one of the highlights in our trip, especially for the children! They still speak about it. First we went to the market to buy some food for 'our' elephants. We... more

My husband and I visited this attraction on our trip to Thailand in July. I was skeptical at first but after visiting and spending a day with the elephants I would recommend it. We were able to work with an elephant for a day learning commands used to ride the elephant and also about their feeding, caring for them and... more
