Patong Beach is a commom beach. There is nothing great or beautiful. What is interesting are the street markets nearby, with many craft shops. Just spent 2 weeks on Patong beach. It is filthy and an absolute disgrace. Not under any circumstances would I holiday on this beach with young children. Its a great disapointment that Phuket is like a dead town. I was there on 15 Sep to 20 Sep 09. The number of tourists have dropped by half. "Chinatown on the beach" pretty much sums up Patong beach. It's crowded, polluted and corrupted... I lasted 15 minutes there and then gapped it.
