We loved Karon beach. We stayed at the Village Resort and Spa and after a couple of trips to Patong were soooooo glad we stayed here. Patong was too cheap and crazy for us...we live in Bondi and this wasn't too disimilar with a great Aussie style beach my other half surfed at a few times and it was lovely.... more

If you want to be alone on a beach in June, then this is your place. If you like to people watch, or have a beach bar around to get food or drinks during the day, then don't go here. Karon beach is quieter than Patong beach but not worth visiting. There are plenty of restaurants that cater to foreigners but the ocean there is not swimmable and the beach was relatively empty when I visited. Karon Beach and Village is much smaller and quieter than cities in Thailand and the prime beach communities on Phuket such as Patong. Karon's over-development must have been quite sudden, because even the most up-to-date guide books didn't prepare us for the tacky main street whose neon-lit bars are full of ageing Western men draped over young Thai girls.
