Very disappointed to arrive to Halong Bay to see all the Chinesse Junks painted white! The beauty of these traditional ships have been destroy by white paint! White boats impossible to see in the fog so they are safety hazard for the local fishermen who have no radar on their small boats.

Halong Bay is a must see if you are visiting Hanoi! The four hour journey is well worth it, as the place is spectacular. Weaving through the limestone karst on the junk boat was an amazing experience. The junk is usually the only way to see this place, although there are bungalows and other resorts on some of the larger... More

We had the dilemma of not knowing which charter cruise company to use, as well as the quantity of time one should spend perusing in awe the magnificence of nature! For us, we chose to do Halong bay overnight on the boat, which was an amazing experience but we were grateful that we hadn't chosen to do it longer. A... More

Spent 2 nights, 3 days which is the best option. Tour operators are very good but they cannot do anything about the amount of boats given licenses and the fact that they are only allowed to go to a very small area so the water is DISGUSTINGLY dirty wherever you go. We stopped for an hour or so to go... More

It's a magnificent site. We chartered a boat to go around for a few hours, we can only tour a small part of it. But definitely it's worth the ride, I was amazed by the work of nature.

Really scenic place and i would give it 5 stars had it not been for the fact that the water was dirty. It is still worth a visit! Definitely do a tour on one of the junks but negotiate for the prices!

The procession of boats out into the bay is actually a bit humurous, all lined up Indian File style. When you get there, no ship captain seems to have any manners about allowing everyone to see the feature rock formation; they just hog the space. The line up to get to see the caves becomes a bum fight, with the... More

Dont expect the bay to be postcard clear.. I have seen in clear of haze on only 5 out of almost 100 trips around this amazing place. The haze or smog drifts down from the coal fired power plants and the numerous brick kilns that are sited further up the Red River Valley. Still it is an amazing place and... More
