With great sounds, smells and sights of street life and 'old' Vietnam, this is a fascinating place to wander the streets and experience life as it is lived in the city.

Crazy busy place, especially on the Sunday night market/walking street! The big round about is madness! I guess it's a must see experience of. It am, but given we've already been to Saigon / Nha trang & da hang, feels a bit been there, done that... Struggled to find many restaurants around here.. You need Internet access / guide book... Just spent a couple of days in Hanoi before going to Halong Bay. I chose to stay in the Old Quarter for the ambience. I spent th efirst afternoon wandering around the Old Quarter. If you want to see life at street level this is the place to experience Hanoi. There is a street for motorbike parts etc. One for shoes, one for hats, and watch out for the cooking pots of coals in the streets.

So much to see hard to get enough and the shopping is great For a city who has been the capital for over 2000 years it has so much to offer The mix of new and old complement each other and I could walk there for hours drinking it all in. A must if you are in Hanoi.

Fantastic experience but not for the timid. Cross the street like the locals and don't be afraid to bargain for that must have item. Look over the food stalls before you eat. Hygiene is an issue for some.
