Perched above Yerevan (about a 20 minute walk from Republic Square) is the museum and memorial to the victims of the Genocide. The monument itself includes an avenue of tombstones, and kashkasrs (carved stone crosses), trees planted by significant visitors (plot the gradual international recognition of the genocide internationally by who visited when) and, at the far end from the... Tells the powerful story of the Ottoman genocide of 1.5 million Armenians in the Great War. Not to be missed.

If you have even a smattering of knowledge of either Armenian history generally or of the Armenian Genocide in particular, you will find a visit to both the monument and museum well worth your time. The Genocide memorial is in good taste, balancing emotional aspects with informational input. If you really want to start understanding more about Armenia and its people - go see it!

Aside from the view it opens up to Ararat the monument itself exceptional. It moves you in ways unexpected even if you're not an Armenian. I didn't have time for the museum.

For me as an Armenian, if I had to visit one place in Yerevan, it will be this place for sure. The place where we can pay tribute to our ancestors who were murdered in the 1915 genocide. What to say but very touching and unforgetable., For the story of this place you need a tourist guide, otherwise you will not understand it.
