Seeing the movie Killing Fields many years back i and my wife did not realise the human suffering Cambodia suffered under the hands of the Khmer Rouge. we travelled through the school which was converted to a prison called S21 in Phnom Penh before heading out to the Killing Fields. The prison made me sick to my stomach seeing the... more

This place was less than an hour's ride by tuk tuk from our hotel. I thought it would be in some desolate area but there's buildings and businesses in the vicinity. It's located off of a relatively new highway and the ride is quite pleasant. After paying the admission fee, one enters the area where genocide was inflicted on the... more

Another one of those which is difficult to say is a excellent attraction because of the gravity of what happened. But it should be visited both as a rememberance to those who died and a reminder that this was only 30 years ago. Definately worth a visit. more

After spending the morning at the Genocide Museum (a must see notwithstanding how upsetting an experience it is) - the killing fields were very disappointing. This is a powerful place, with a large tower-like memorial in the center of an otherwise unimpressive field. The large tower, somewhat ornate from the distance, contains several floors of skulls (sorted by age and gender) that visually captures the volume and horror of the bloodshed at the Killing Fields. The skulls are behind glass, but are so close that... more

The ride to this infamous site of mass murder is long and dusty. I highly recommend a car instead of the ubiquitous 3 wheeled motorbikes. Once you arrive you can walk the grounds where heinous crimes against humanity were carried out by the Khmer Rouge. The memorial tower with stacks of human skulls was very moving. A sad site to... more
