Locals call it 'The Vertical Runway' as it was built from cement donated by U.S for a new airport. Rather ugly. Jerry fox more

We arrived late on our first day in Vientiane, so the many vendors located within the tower were already closing. The arch itself pretends to be an Asian Arch de Triomphe, with added embellishments for reminiscent of Notre Dame. It does, however, offer tremendous views up and down the (recently renamed) main boulevard towards Thailand and inland. more
