Although this shop is a government shop. The prices here are terribly expensive compared to other stores such as odel, lakpahana, barefoot, paradise road. The goods are of a terrible quality. I also found that despite being a government store, they also give a commision to your driver for bringing you there.(this explains the high prices.)If you watch closely there will... More

Awright, so my mom and I had 1 day to shop in Colombo and unfortunately it was Srilankan newyrs so Odel and other shops were closed so we got to spend about 2.5 hours at Laksala. Here's what you can find there. (For those curious, may find this helpful if looking for something specific)- 1. Souvenirs- From Key chains, to... More

No where in sri lanka has decent shopping as westerners would know good shopping. Clothing is a hodge podge of unknown local fashion brands. And shopping malls are small, chaotic and could be equated to feeling like charity shops in australia or england. There is plenty of tourist rubbish but no bargains or decent international brands. Occasionally you will find... More

I stopped by Laksala on my last day of my trip when I visited Sri Lanka. I had my Japanese friend with me, and knowing she needed to pick up some gifts to take home to Japan, we stopped by Laksala. Prices are set so it's convenient. I purchased some cushion covers with elephant patchwork, painted small wooden turtles that... More

A visit to the Colombo Laksala is a must for all foreign tourists. You can buy fantastic gifts and keepsakes. Items like wooden pieces, silver and moon stone jewellery, straw mats, key chains, T shirts and masks can be bought here. One tip is that if you get a chance to visit the Kandy Laksala do buy the stuff you... More

Conveniently located in the Fort, with huge variety of handicrafts including carvings, batiks, statues, etc. One of few places to have simple fridge magnets et al. As Government-run prices are fixed, which in Sri Lanka ensures you get a fair price. Other stores outside such as in Pettah require bartering with often the intention that you don't receive a fair... This is a great, cetral place to find any maner of local handicraft. Its housed in a large, historical building in the Fort area. If travelling by vehicle, finding parking is a bit diffucult but there are paid areas close by if you look. There are plenty of three-wheelers right outside the entrance. The pricing is fixed and very reasonable.... More

A must to visit if you are looking for Sri Lankan handicraft. You get variety at a reasonable rate. Prices are fixed and its government run so chances are low of being cheated or buying over priced items. A list of branches can be found on the following link, http://www.laksala.lk/english/retail_outlets/retail_outlets.asp The biggest outlet is down york Street but getting there... More
