Reaching there, through a maze of eating joints (mostly kebap cafes and Turkish Delight shops), we reached the cultural centre, which is actually a 550 year old renovated and remodelled Hamam (bathing place). The Sema itself was nice if you understand the concept behind the... More

First of all you should be aware about what you're going to experience. It's not a dancing show. It is monotonous. Do not go if you don't know about it. You may find is strange, maybe boring. Do not go if you're tired and/or not that much interested -- you'll probably sleep during the cerimony. It will cost you 50TL... More

This was one of the experiences I was looking forward to the most as I had seen clips of the Whirling Dervish on many travel channel shows on Istanbul. The music gave me goose bumps and watching this religious experience was amazing. Who knew whirling could be so graceful. If you go to the Cultural Center to see you will... More

Without knowing where to experience the mediational dance of the Mevlevi Order, tourists can get a true taste thro this hypnotizing performance. One some nights, traditional folk dances are also presented in delightful costumes.

Though I did not understand a word from any song, but the emotion behind it, which was unshaken faith & beyond the limit love for their god was mesmerizing and toucing! Whirling dervish reach your soul by just whirling in trans and you feel the same freeness of mind and dedication, which they experience!

Even though this is a performance and not an actual sema, it gives the viewer a glimpse of the profound discipline of the Sufi practitioners. The music is mesmerizing.

You definitely want to get tickets to see the whirling dervishes. These Sufi masters perform a religious dance that is uniquely soothing and uplifting. But don't be an idiot and think you must take pictures!!

I was put into a trance while barely staying awake at this hypnotical performance of the Whirling Dervishes. It's worth arriving 30 minutes before performance time, to get some tea and check out the displays about historic Turkish dance (belly-dancing, whirling dervishes, and more). Take note: NO PHOTOS while inside the theater.
