I love being on the water and it was great to see Topaki Palace from there and the old protective walls. There is not much to advertise about the one stop on the round trip -- lots of restaurants selling fish. Dolphins appeared just as Rick Steves promised. Women--the Turkish toilet is disgusting!!

The Bosphorus Strait is one very busy choke point for ship traffic between the Med and the Black Sea. It's a hoot to watch if you enjoy watching a wide variety of merchant vessels sail by. I sailed through the Straits twice while working in the Merchant Marine for 35 years. It was a place I always wanted to go... More

Take a cruise, see the sights! You won't get many chances to cruise from one continent to another and this particular cruise is inexpensive and beautiful.

Brilliant, Go on the local ferry up to the last village and eat a loaf of bread stuffed with crispy fish. Boat is 25 tl return, leaves at 10.35, very busy but great value.

Cross over to Kadikoy to the Asian side and enjoy the brilliant displays of fruit and vegetables and eat in a small street-side restaurant

The boattrips leave from Eminönü. You can take a normal ferry to for example Üsküdar, or Bosphorus cruise. There is a 90 min cruise to the end of the strait. It has several stops where you can exit. If you are lucky you can see dolphins. If you go to the end, you end up in a small village (with... More

We went to this by hopping off the hop on hop off bus, which is a must, close to the Spice Market and New Mosque. It is a short uphill walk to the Hagia Sofia area on your return.

There are many cruises from the port in Istanbul and many people touting them. The one we chose lasted about 11/2 hours which I found to be enough. I enjoyed the trip because it gave me yet another view of Istanbul. As we went up the Bosphorus it was amazing to see even more mosques and old historic buildings, residences... More

The area around the Galata bridge if filled with sights and sounds. The bright red and gold decorated food cats and boats lining the river, the ferries taking commuters and tourists to their destinations and the Mosques rising form the bank are all part of the ambiance.
