I'm often wary of spice bazaars as a tourist, because why do I need spices when I'm traveling and can't cook? To take home, yes, but in the middle of a longer trip (as I was on), they hold little value to me. Looking at the spices is fun, but I would recommend The Egyptian Bazaar particularly for its food... more

The Egyptian bazaar is great fun. Full of noise and smells. Watch out for pickpockets in the outdoor sections though, it gets very crowded there, so makes it easy for them to operate. Never feels threatening though. Go for a stroll across the Gallata bridge afterwards and have a drink and some nice grilled fish for a few dollars. Really... more

This bazaar is full of character and I feel is definitely a must see when in Istanbul. An interesting piece of information about the bazaar was that it was built in the 1660's as part of the Yeni Camii Complex. The Egyptian Bazaar (Misir Carsisi) is a lot smaller than Grand Bazaar, a little more traditional and less crowded. You can find a great selection of spicies and turkish delights in here. Some of the stores close at 12 o'clock for one hour. more
