It's not the best fortress we've seen. No displays, no recreations of rooms or anything. But it's cool to go up all the towers and see the walls that protected constanstinople. The views of the Sea of Marmora are cool. Kids liked the place. Takes about 30-60 minutes. On the way back (assuming you took the train, stop at the... More

Castle of the Seven Towers were remainings of the Byzantine walls. Later on during the Ottoman Period some part were used as prisons. Many crown princes were slaughtered in these prisons. The Golden Gate is also in the Castle of the Seven Towers.

I've been here many times, and always take my friends when they visit. They always love it. It features the original gate that the victorious soldiers entered during Byzatine era, it was covered with gold originally. You can then see the extra towers they have added to make it a prison for the ottoman period. You can walk through the... More

The best way to reach this place is by a (quite long) walk along the Marmara Sea, from the piers in Sultanhamet, right to the Castle. Mind that you start your walk on a sunny day, so that you'll be able to enjoy the fresh, clean air. Bring some water too, as there are not many food or drink stalls... More

This is a site that not many people visit. It is a little bit out of the way but fairly easy to get to (from the Sultanahmet district take the train from Sikerci 5 or 6 stops to Yedikule and you are a block or two away from the fortress). When we went they were filming a movie in front... More

Yedikule Fortress is actually two distinct periods of building; the first period being the Theodasius Constantinople Land Wall with the Golden Gate in between the two large square towers, the second phase being Ottoman in which they built three walls and additional towers on the inside of the land wall to create a 'square-ish' fortress. This fortress controlled the main... More

We decided to hit this fortress on our last day and were so glad we made the effort. It's awesome for exploring and climbing around-- we spent 45 minutes to an hour wandering about nearly alone. Entry is 3 TL. We actually went to Chora Church first (also in the outskirts) and ended up taking a 12TL cab to Yedikule--... More

You've got dungeons with big scary chains, dimly-lit stairways that wind their way up the towers, spectacular views from the top and the opportunity to feel like Indiana Jones on adventure in Istanbul. One group was leaving as I arrived and no one else came in the hour I spent scampering about the turrets. No hand-rails so hold your heart... More

we saw this on a backpackers half day tour. It is an impreesive place but there is no information on site, A bulb had gone leaving one area very dark and it is definately not fully maintained so there are trip hazards. Having said that we found it an interesting stop.;the walls are incredible andwell preserved,a sultan was killed there... More

Good view of the city but we really liked it for its rustic feel and the towers were incredible. The scaffolding you walk on high above the dungeon floor will take your breath away. It was one of the only places we felt we were out of the tourists stream. We ate lunch at a little kabob shop right around... More
