A great location if you are a foodie! Apart from the food on the main street you can lurk into small corners to also find some cheap stuff. We found a menu for less that 3Euros for lunch and tasted as good as it gets !

Be sure to wander down to the Istanbul Craft Center, near the Blue Mosque. You might see the artist at work. Also, great little restaurant near there called " The Secret Garden" Near the Four Seasons Hotel

the market, the monuments are heavenly... but beware of people trying to approach you for a haman. or asking you to join them for a pub etc.. they may take all your money... else the people of turkey are quite helpful, friendly .. you may have language problem but they will help you to their best

Fun touristy but historic area. Unless you want to be suckered out of your time and money, do NOT stop to respond to locals who talk with you. Usually they will start with, "Where are you from?" "I have a cousin in the US."

The Blue Mosque and Grand Bazaar were worth a visit. Sailing on the Bosphorus was very pleasant. However the dirt and traffic means I wouldnt visit again from choice. Finding restaurants that sold alchohol was difficult and expensive. If they want to make this a dry city then they should make it clear to travellers. Dont visit toilets at Blue... More

unless you have business across the water, this is the area to be in...one of the oldest churches in Christian history, beautiful mosques, museums, Topkapi Palace, old and new shops & market places...a great walking city/area...relatively safe..use common sense..over time I've found the street life to be never dull..don't let street business people intimidate you..a polite "NO" or simply walk... Filled with tourists clicking photographs, Sultanahmet district is a must see. All the major historical sites are within a walking distance from each other. A great host of restaurants are also there offering different cuisines.
