Taking a ferry is one of the quintessential things to do in Istanbul. The 90 minute Bosphorus tour, leaving rather frequently from the northwestern foot of the Galata bridge (past the New Mosque) is an inexpensive and perfectly pleasant way to do it. Many locals use the same boat to enjoy the river. The views are superb. Waiters circle the... More

Bosphorus cruise is an excellent experience. It takes you from Sultanahmet District along the European side of Istanbul to the Asian side and back to Sultanahmet.

In May we did a 3hr Bosphorus Cruise organized by bosphoruscruise.com with a group of 11 people. The service was impeccable, right from the first email to the actual tour in Istanbul. Quick reply, perfect organization, timely pick-up, beautiful boat, very good service on board. And of course: The 3 hour trip along the bosphorus is very worthwile. Overall very... More

Only 25TL and a perfect cheap way to see the Bosphorus. When you do the 3 hour stopover at Anadolu Kavagi make sure you walk to the fort on the hill and eat there, a cheap and great place. We had dolphins near the boat and just a very enjoyable time.

The biggest mistake of a tourist in Istanbul is to get suckered into taking an expensive boat cruise where they pick you up in a bus at your hotel. They are all absolutely a huge waste of a lot of money. You can easily find ferries that go on various river trips for a very low cost, and getting to... More

A must do when visiting Istanbul. Start at the great Spice market and end on the highest point on the Asian side to view the beautiful Bosphorus. The Tour takes you from the Spice market to a small boat going up the river at a relaxing pace. Excellent explanations of palaces, homes, forts etc. on European and Asian sides of... More

Take a public ferry from Eminonu. Return ticket costs 25 TL. There are two ferries in the summer season: 10:35 and 13:35. I recommend that you take the ferry that leaves the dock at 10:35, because you will have one hour more to explore Anadolu Kavagi (from 12:10 to 15:00). Be prepared for steep walking up the hill to the... More

I worked in Istanbul for about a year, and this is the only tourist-y activity in which I partook on a regular basis. An a sunny day, there are few lovelier sights than the bright blues of the Bosphorus and Black Sea beyond melting with the greens of the surrounding hills and the adorable port towns lining the straight. It's... More

If you want hike to see the castle ruins, be prepared to go up hill, way up. Don't pay more than 15 Tl for the fixed menu for lunch. Avoid the top deck of the boat because the diesel emissions are harsh.
