We were here mid march, and almost gave this a miss. On reaching Ephesus, we decided to go visit Mary's house first. Good decision. You pay your entry for the car and individuals, as you drive in. Decent parking space. There are about 2 restaurants there and clean washrooms, should you need them. A short walk later you are in... More

Not much to the site itself beside the house, the fountains, and the shops. I liked it as a historical site but I'm not a very religious person. The taxi drive to the house cost more than admittance.

The House of the Virgin Mary (Turkish: Meryem ana or Meryem Ana Evi, "Mother Mary's House") is a Roman Catholic and Muslim shrine located on Mt. Koressos (Turkish: Bülbüldağı, "Mount Nightingale") in the vicinity of Ephesus, 7 kilometres (4.3 mi) from Selçuk in Turkey. The house was discovered in the 19th century by following the descriptions in the reported visions of... We went after 5pm and judging from the other reviews, time really matters. There were very few people around, and the minute we stepped in, we can feel a sense of peace, serenity and magic enveloping us. The presence of Virgin Mary is really quite strong, even though I am not a person of the Christian or Cathoic faith. I... More

We took a taxi from the train station that cost around 50 lira which included a ride back to Ephesus. Entrance fee was around 12.5 Lira per person . The site consists of Marys house and there is not much to see from a site point of view but it is all about experiencing the site and feeling its importance.... More

A pretty little stone house in a beautiful setting. Did the Virgin Mary actually live here? Obviously, for believers, it is worth the pilgrimage.

Beautiful house and chapel and a gorgeous setting in the middle of nature. This is definitely worth a trip up to give you a good feel for the history and to see the wall of peoples wishes, hopes, and prayers tucked inside layers of fabric, papers, strings, scarves, etc.

Our tour started off here and I have to say you DO get a special sense of the place. The Pope visited here recently and as the Virgin Mary is tied to St. John there is a chance she did spend out her days here. The Franciscans staff the House and I had a really pleasant chat with a Friar... More
