If you go, do yourself a favor and walk up. By walk, I mean near verticle climb,with steep,irregular steps. The cable car is for pansies. It's a good workout, the Israelis won't expect it from Westerners presented with a softer option and it's a cool thing to say you've done. more

Masada is a great combination of history, culture and scenic beauty that is well worth the 2 hour drive from Jerusalem. You can ride a cable car or walk to the top.
