If you have a few hours in Kuwait, visit the old souq. It is a really atmospheric place. I have seen other souqs in the region and this one is in many ways my favourite. Nobody will bother you as it isn't a "touristy souq". I love the shops selling dates, spices, olives, fruit and veg and fish. The gold... More

This is one of my favorite places in Kuwait, while the whole country has stepped into the 21st century this place has stayed true to its origins. It is authentic, traditional, vibrant and full of life. My favorite place is a restaurant called al shomam, it's located in the heart of market and although it's seating is not the best... More

My husband and I happened to stumble across this market while waiting for a tour of the Grand Mosque. What a jewel!! We were the only Americans in sight, but weren't made to feel out of place in any way. Rows and rows of neat finds, jewelry, rugs, scarves, traditional clothing, exotic foods and other goods. We plan to go... More

A great place to browse and eat. It looks like I ate at the same place as the last review looking at the two photos, huge Arabian naan like bread with chicken and hummus for next to nothing and great Arabic tea. Then for dessert some dates from the many date stands!

We visited this souq twice this year. We really loved the place, people, and the atmsphere. You will find great bargins and traditional stuff. Don't miss the restaurants. We really loved it but make sure the weather is suitable.

If you want to scout for cheap items like carpets, perfumes, Middle Eastern vintage items or if you just want to experience their semi-traditional flea market where you can buy 4-5 kilos of Tuna or Salmon for example for only at half dinar (500 fills or say around US $1.5) like around 7AM or anytime depending on the season that... See the absolute traditional way of living in Kuwait. Containing an open-air market and some coffee shops, Souk Al-Mubarakiya is a very nice place to go to see the Kuwaiti traditions.
