It wasn't very crowded when we went so we had ample space to walk around and "explore." The ruins were incredible!
Visiting the temples is like going through thousands of years of human history. One cannot help but be awed by the gigantic task, and the tremendous sacrifice by the slaves, involved in building the temples. The presence of pagan, Byzantine Christian and Islamic culture in one place is certainly amazing.

visiting Baalbeck is a must. It is even better than Rome or anywhere else I have been. In addition if you can go during the summer during the festivals then the experience is unforgettable! classical music in the heart of the roman ruins! opear signing! even pop concerts! briadway shows! incredible experience.
