Went to Damascus backpacking with my wife (me 61 wife 59) booked nice small hotel in centre and spent 4 days there. The souk was great, very tall with a corrugated iron roof and lots of small shops selling everything. It is in a walled city centre with the marvellous Omyad Mosque in the centre, lots of very narrow back... more
