once you locate the centre and find the correct bus it is worth spending some time here. Understanding local culture and history is important and this centre certainly answer either all or most of your questions. Trying to get a picture of the entire complex will be your biggest challenge.

what an incredible place to learn about the culture of the area...beautiful grounds and exhibit spaces...daily programs and events..not much in the way of food or dining...took the yellow bus to the center..it never returned and we took a city bus back to our hotel

This centre celebrates the history and cultural of the Kanak people and is worth visiting (easy by bus on the blue line) just to view the fantastic building.

The Tjibaou Cultural Centre designed by Renzo Piano is certainly not to be missed - it is a culturally sensitive architectural masterpiece and one of the world's interesting and inspiring buildings. It is Jean Marie Tjibaou's legacy to providing a repository for Kanak culture. Unfortunately it does not achieve this. While the Kanak pathway provides some insight into Kanak mythology... More

Easy to get to by public bus. the architecture is amazing so seeing the buildings is worth it. But you wouldn't spend longer than half an hour here.

This is a wonder of a building, but more importantly showcases the Melanesian culture of the island. Stunning peices of art and historical displays. Well set out and beautifully located, but is a bit far out of town. Worth the effort to get there.

A 20 min bus ride through some of the wealthier suburbs of Noumea, past the French Consulate, Domestic airport, Catapillar Distributor and a stunning golf course and you are deposited at the front gate for AUD$2 per adult. Admission is AUD$5. For your troubles you are rewarded with world class architecture, views, parklands, and a mixed introduction to the life... More

I love learning about local cultures. Housing that cultural insight in a structure by a world-famous architect, and I'm in heaven. If you are already in Noumea, you probably think you are close to heaven anyway for the beaches and the snorkeling. If you want to take a break from nature's bounties, the Tjibaou Culture Center is terrific. The fact... More

Amongst all the great things we saw and learnt there, we found a book (avalaible both in French and English) explaining the usage and meanings of plants which the Kanaks use and cultivate. Very interesting and useful before exploring the North of Grand Terre where we met local tribes.
