I liked everything. Such a nice and spiritual place. I'd love to go back one day.

I went there around 4 pm and stayed until 7 pm, just enough time to see the place shining under the sunlight well until the people turned on the ground lights. It was a sight to behold. A massive golden structure overlooking a city that seemed trapped in time. It was very crowded as usual since it was the top... More

Shwedagon is probably the greatest single stupa of Southeast Asia. Everywhere from Burma to Laos you will find these bell-shaped towers, but none of them surpasses the grandeur of Shwedagon. Like Athens' Acropolis, it can be seen from all around the central city, hence it serves both figuratively and literally as the summit of the city. There may have been... More

I'm not a temple of pagoda nut but this must be the pinnacle. Take a good hour or tow, there's so much to see and learn. Evenings are recommended, and turn up in jandals or thongs as you'll have to carry your footwear.

I went there at day and at night, in the morning it was very crowded and noisy, although beautiful to see the golden pagoda shining under the sun. At night it was simply wonderful, the entrance was actually closed but I asked one of the guys there to let me in (I come from far away...) and once I was... More

This pagoda is as grand as what the travel brochures make it out to be but best to view it in the evening as the sun starts to go down. You will be able to see locals and monks praying and chanting and lighting candle lamps, etc along with the nice sunset!

A marvelous architectural site. As great as the Tour Eiffel or the Taj Majal, with an added sense of the spiritual that seeps into your soul and allows you to relate personnally to the structure and to the people who venerate it.

This is much more than an old temple full of statues. It is history, with reverence and awe. Go early in the morning, or late in the afternnoon. You must be barefoot in the temple and the tiles get VERY hot at mid-day.

The famous Shwedagon Pagoda is another “must see" attraction in the Capital. We ascended by lift (while some climbed the stairs in the heat!). At the top platform level we mixed with crowds praying and socialising while we tourists rubbernecked and snapped the golden stupa and the scores of shrines and temples. Gold is the colour here and the late... More

The top tourist attraction in Yangon and also the Mecca for the local Bhuddists. A fascinating place and a must visit for anyone going to Yangon. It is very, very bright, even on a cloudy day due to all the white marble and gold so don't forget to bring your sunglasses. You can get a guide who will explain all... More
