A experience like no other;... the twinkly fairy lights were a surprise to me! Go there if you possibly can.
This is another sacred Buddhist icon in Myanmar that is worth the effort to visit. It is about four hours from Yangon. Passage half way up the mountain is done in a half-ton truck bed. The seats are 2X4 planks...50 people are crammed in before the truck takes off. It is a hair raising trip to the halfway point. There,...

An amazing place where villages are literally on the side of the mountain. We didn't stay on the mountain, only visited for the day. the last bus back with the locals is something else!
It's a very emotional experience, especially if you decide to climb all the way to the rock, just be aware that it's not an easy task, it's VERY steep (especially the first 30 minutes) and there's no shade, but once you get there, it's definitely worth it. When you get to the site you should buy a hat and some water.
Because you will be travelling seven miles to an elevation of one mile in the back of open 10 ton trucks sitting on a seat of 6x6 hardwood with 40 or more other people....

Really enjoyed it here. Felt like a bit of an adventure getting there, after 40 minutes on an open top truck. Wooden benches - try to get a side seat so you can hang on better...or nab one of the two front seats!
It was still around a 2km walk from our hotel and whilst it was up one of...
