We travelled quite a bit with the metro in Seoul. We bought a T-money card, and I recommend this to everyone who plans to stay more than 2 days in Seoul (it's pretty much like the Oyster card in the UK or the octopus card in Hong Kong).

The only way to travel around the city. Get a map online. All the signs are in English, just make sure you remember what exit you used to get in or out of the subway, and there could be up to 12 exits..

We were apprehensive to start with about finding instructions in English. Our fears were misplaced - there are English signs and announcements all over the place. Trains run on time. Plenty of stations on the network to take you close to wherever you want. Ticket vending machines work without glitches.

cheap way to go around Seoul. and if you can not read Korean, this is the way to go since the buses are not labeled in english. service is fast and comes in around every 5 minutes. we loved using the metro.

Maybe an "average" score is unjust, as this metro system will take you almost anywhere in the city, traffic free, but it has quite a few problems.
